Hamilton Lions Bingo Club Bites The Dust
Even if you are not the biggest fan of bingo, you would have to say that a bingo hall is a far better place for society than a strippers club. Opinions are definitely split about the latter style of venue in a local region but regardless of where you stand on it, you would think that a bingo hall, especially one that has a history of paying out thousands to local charities would be viewed more favourably than local council authorities. This doesn’t appear to be the case in Hamilton Canada where the Hamilton Lions Bingo Club are greatly struggling to stay afloat.
Fees are too high for bingo clubs
In fact, the club has announced that there will be no more games of bingo being played at their venue because they are only just breaking even after they pay taxes and licences to the local authority. This means that local charities, who receive all of the profits from these games will be missing out from much needed income. There are obviously many reasons why people are not playing bingo in the numbers that they used to but the club are pointing the finger at the amount of money that they have to shell out in order to be able to legally put the games on in the first place.
High fees in comparison
The club has to pay the city $4,000 as a charitable enterprise and they are keen to point out that a local stripper working professionally only needs to pay $215 to the same body. That should easily be racked up in a good evening but $4,000 is not something that any bingo club can just rustle up at short notice. The comparison made by the bingo club is clearly one with the intention of making a moral impact on people but it may be one that works.
There is a certain attitude towards gaming and even though bingo is at the lower end of the scale when compared to poker or casinos, many people will still say that it can cause problems for a great number of people. However, when compared to other activities which could have a worse impact on the social fabric of our time, it is interesting to know the level of discouragement being offered to the people involved. Whether anything will come from these complaints remains to be seen but for now, the Hamilton Lions bingo club has roared for the last time.
