Bingo On Agenda For New Pub Owners

It is not only the bingo industry that is struggling to get people through its doors on a regular basis, pubs up and down the country are also fighting a battle to keep the punters rolling in. The same economic conditions and the effects of the smoking ban which have impacted on the bingo industry have also impacted on the publican trade and this has caused many to sell out. However, there is still scope for success for people who work hard, provide innovation and do their best to get a little bit of luck on the way. Of course, many pub owners realise that bingo can be an attractive part of their entertainment policy.

Bingo boosting public houses

Karl and Kath Longham are well known in the pub industry for punters and industry specialists alike in theLynnarea. This is due to the fact that Kath has over 25 years of experience in the industry and the couple are well known landlords of the London Porterhouse inLondon Road. However, the couple has recently extended their pub work by taking over at the Anvil in Congham. There are a number of new items on the menu and agenda at the Anvil but one of the biggest inclusions has been a monthly bingo night.

Caroline’s Charity Bingo Night takes place once a month in the pub. The good cause receiving the benefit changes every month with the last big bingo night providing much needed funds for Cancer Research. Karl said of the bingo evenings; “Caroline does a fantastic job and works very hard to make these bingo nights successful. They are a good fun evening with money going to a cause that touches all of us.”

When talking about the decision to extend their work at a time when many are looking to downsize, Karl told a local reporter; “We both love the trade and The Anvil appealed because we were looking for a business where we could offer great quality, home-cooked food at reasonable prices and great real ales. The Anvil is a fantastic location set in lovely countryside just off the A148 Fakenham road. We are signposted from the main road so although we are in a quiet location, we can easily be found.”

With bingo, quizzes, live bands and a whole new menu, the couple know the things that punters look for when it comes to a traditional style pub.
