The Martingale Blackjack Betting system is one of the most prevalent and long standing blackjack betting systems that is and has been relied upon by blackjack players of all levels of experience and ability. One of the most distinguishing characteristics of the Martingale system is that it represents a major departure from arguably one of the most common conventions of blackjack betting systems in that it relies upon the system of negative progression.

When using a negative progression system, the player will be required to make their decisions based entirely upon the value of statistical probability which operates on the assumption of the odds of the player losing when betting on an infinite number of wagers. In addition to the Martingale wagering system being easily identifiable by virtue of the fact that it relies on negative progression is the fact that it also requires the use of even money.

What about the actual submission of wagers? How does that work with regards to the Martingale system? Initially, the player submits a wager of one and from there, if they should loss then they will be required to wager double the value of their initial bet per subsequent, consecutive round. From there, if the player manages to secure a victory then this means that the system is then reset entirely, and so they must begin once again with a single wager.

What is it about the Martingale wagering system that makes it such a tempting and alluring proposal for blackjack players? In effect, the Martingale system will effectively guarantee a minimum, base rate of profitability.

Rather than discussing this blackjack betting system in a vacuum, let us consider an example to clarify the system.

A blackjack player has set a limit of $10 per wager and on the 1st round, they are unfortunate enough to lose which means that under the guidance of the Martingale system, they are required to submit a wager of $20 in the 2nd round. For the purposes of this example, we will assume that the player has once again suffered a loss.

Now that we have entered into the 3rd round, this means that the player will be required to wager $40 to break even. If they are unfortunate enough to lose the 3rd round then they will be required to wager $80 in the 4th and so it continues until they win in which case, they are then required to simply reset the system totally.
